I just have to say, I LOVE badminton. I've played badminton with my twin sister for simply years and years and years. If I had a yard I would probably play it every day (provided there were someone willing to play it with me). When we used to live with our parents, my twin and I would play for hours until it got dark and even then we played until we simply couldn't see anything anymore. We came up with badminton alter egos. She was Trudy Scrumptiermeyer and I was Francis Pickowitt. We were two olympic badminton players who got disqualified. She, because she was using an extra bouncy birdy and I because I had steroids in my aquafina. We would always "blame" each other for our disgraceful banishment and playfully insult each other as we played. It was great fun. We never used a net either and the real goal of the game was to keep the volley going. We had some pretty amazing dives going too and in my opinion we were pretty dang good. Our parents used to scold us because in winter we turned the yard into mud with all of our running around. For some reason I used to play it in rain boots, which weren't too friendly on the grass....

Recently I was at my older sister's house for our usual tuesday activities. Instead of watching Beverly Hillbillies as we always do, my 8 year old niece suggested we play badminton instead. I was overjoyed, though I realized that the experience would be a bit toned down because after all, we were playing with an 8 year old and that could tend to slow things down. Boy was I wrong! The kid is a natural! She still needs a bit of practice with her serves but boy howdy can she hit!! Anything you threw at her she could pretty much wack back at ya and with great force too. I was so impressed! Perhaps the great tradition of badminton can live on through her as I have high hopes that she'll become as crazed about it as I am. Then maybe tuesdays can become badminton day (at least in the warmer months). It's just so nice to be playing it again at all and to have other people becoming enthused about it too. Now that I'm starting to get badminton back, I think it's time to add some wall ball too.......mwahahahahaha!!
